Frequently Ask Questions answered by Dr. Desiree Curley

What is your background in your career – schooling, license/certifications, positions held, etc.?

Please see attached CV.

What was your inspiration for entering the chiropractic profession?

I struggled with chronic infections growing up. In high school, I found chiropractic, and it changed my life. I started to learn about how the body works and understood that disease occurs when there is interference in the communication between the brain and the body. When you remove that interference—whether physical, chemical, or emotional—the body will heal itself.

When did you open Essential Life Chiropractic? Is this your first time in private practice?

I have been practicing since 2002. I have worked for this practice, in this office since 2011. I purchased this practice in 2023 and changed the name to Essential Life Chiropractic.

How did you decide on your business name?

The brain is the control center of the body. As long as there is no interference, the body will heal itself. This Essential Life force—the communication between the brain and the body—once restored, brings the body to optimal health.

How many doctors and staff members do you have?

I am the only physician, and I have two staff members.

What services do you provide? Do you offer anything that is new, unconventional, or groundbreaking?

We offer chiropractic adjustments and therapies such as Estim, laser, ultrasound, exercise, and kinesiology taping. I also counsel patients in physical (adjustments, exercise, diet, sleep), chemical (anything you put into your body—food, supplements, medicine), and emotional health (stress from life, family, or jobs). We also offer holistic natural products that strengthen the immune system.

Total body health can only be achieved when your physical, chemical, and emotional health are as close to 100% as possible.

Do you have any stories to share of significant improvements you’ve noticed in patients?

I specialize in pre- and post-natal chiropractic. I use Webster’s breech turning technique and have had much success treating sciatica, low back pain, and upper back and neck pain in pregnant women. I treat infants who experience physical issues such as torticollis or digestive and eating issues following birth, with great success.

I also treat many children with neurological issues like autism and ADHD. While I am not treating autism or ADHD directly, spinal adjustments can improve autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulation and communication between the brain and body, potentially leading to improved focus, emotional regulation, and sensory processing.

I work with children and adults involved in sports—football, gymnastics, dance, weight training, and pickleball. Chiropractic adjustments, therapy, and kinesiology taping help manage repetitive injuries, enhance performance, and prevent long-term damage.

Desk-related strain and posture issues respond well to chiropractic care. I teach exercises and recommend supplements that patients can incorporate into daily life to optimize health. As we age, chiropractic care can increase mobility and help manage arthritis and other age-related symptoms.

What advice do you have for patients who may be hesitant or scared of chiropractic care?

Chiropractic is a noninvasive, safe form of holistic health care. Educating patients about how their bodies work is key to transforming their health. Come in and experience how chiropractic care can help you achieve optimal physical, chemical, and emotional health.

Why did you choose Freehold for your location? Are you a resident?

I am a Freehold resident and chose this area because of the excellent school system. My daughter attended the Freehold Township school system, graduated from FTHS, and is now attending university.

How do you support the Freehold community? And how does Freehold give back to you?

I have been a member of the Freehold Rotary since 2019 and have served as Rotary President for the last two years. We are a service organization that gives back to our community. I also serve on the Freehold YMCA advisory board, focusing on community outreach and extending YMCA services to residents.

I served as the team chiropractor for Freehold Elite Gymnastics from 2018–2023. Freehold has been an exceptional place to build my business and raise my family.

I am also an adjunct professor, teaching Anatomy & Physiology at Monmouth University.
